A Quick Intro

Welcome to Warrior Cat's Online's official Guide. Joining a new site, especially with an unfamiliar layout, can often be quite a daunting process, so here are some tips for navigating and creating an account on our website. First of all, a brief introduction. Warrior Cat's Online is a thread-based roleplay site, used by people of all ages and abilities. For more info on roleplay and how it works, look below.

The Rules

Making An Account

Before you can actually do any of the roleplaying, you will need to create an account on our site. There are two methods for this. If you already have a Webs account, you can simply sign in using that account. If not, you will need to create another following these simple steps:

1 - Click the 'Register' option, located in the upper right corner of the page, beneath 'Members Area'. You will then be redirected to the Sign Up page.

2 - Fill in the required information. Your Display Name will be the name that you will be recognized as on the site. Choose something relating to yourself, preferably the name of your desired character/s. Please avoid naming yourself something ending in 'Star', as this can cause confusion. You can change this at a later date, so don't worry if you change your mind.

3 - You will need to check the email address that you entered for a confirmation email. Please do not send one back. After clicking on the link provided, you will be redirected to your profile page. Spend some time editing and personalizing it, using the advice below.

Setting Up A Profile

Next, you can set up and personalize your profile. Depending on the individual, you may want to include different information, but here are some guidelines and suggestions for what you might put.

Now, you may want to consider your profile image. Please use a picture of one of your planned characters, as it helps to describe them better. Usually, a main character is chosen. You may also use art as your profile picture, but ONLY if it belongs to you. Although this is not in the rules, it is highly impolite to use an image without the direct permission of the owner or creator. If you cannot find an appropriate image, click here for a wide selection of available photographs that may match your character. Also, please do NOT use an inappropriate or 'mature' image, or your account will be deleted without warning.

Once you have chosen an appropriate image, you can begin to fill out the About Me section of your profile. It is recommended that you use this space to describe your character/s, or store their details for your own use as well as other users. This will help with organisation and enhance your roleplaying with others, as they will be able to see your character's information in more detail. Remember, you CANNOT put ANY images on your profile, or anywhere else on the site, excluding your profile image. You may, however, use links. This is due to our lack of bandwidth, which can often cause the site to shut down. To see more information on this, search the internet or check our recent blog posts in the Site News area of the website, which can be located using the navigation bar at the top of the page.

You may also want to edit your signature, which can be found beneath any posts you make on the site. This can be anything you want, within reason. Once again, NO inappropriate content and NO images are allowed here. Please try to keep your signature short, and include minimum links. You could include a list of your characters here, but preferably no descriptions, or some of your favourite quotes.

If you don't have time to fill out your profile or signature straight away, or would prefer to do so at a later date, you can edit your profile at any time by clicking the Edit Profile link beneath your profile image when on your profile, or in the Members Area section at the top of the sidebar.

Beginning Your Roleplay
Now that you have your profile and your account all set up, you're free to explore the site wherever you choose, but we highly recommend that you check out the Rules before doing anything else, to avoid punishment. You can easily find the link on the navigation bar, at the top of this page.

After you read the rules, you can begin to develop your character/s, or jump right into the roleplay! There's no need to sign up or register your characters, as long as you keep their details somewhere - in your profile or signature, preferably, as mentioned before. You do NOT have to contact the leader of the clan/s you want you character/s to join, and please refrain from doing so as it can be very irritating.
Also, as stated in the Rules, do not ask for a high rank, no matter what the situation. You will be contacted if you're eligible for a High Rank in the future.

When you're ready to roleplay, go ahead and click on our Roleplaying Forums. Here, you'll be shown many different categories where you can make a thread or post. Because some people have trouble knowing which categories to post in, I'll explain them all in further depth below:

Reminder:  Some roleplays are closed to certain members, so check to make sure it's open for all before you post. You can set up roleplays and plots via the Roleplay Resources.

Some examples of how most people on the site roleplay:

Passing the seashore, Bravestep headed into the cave he knew all too well. The glistening and glittering stones shimmered on the cave walls, and he was unsure if it made him feel safer, or claustrophobic. There were no other scents in the cave, so he assumed he was the first medicine cat to arrive. Finding his usual place within the cave, Bravestep settled down, awaiting the others.
-Stolen from Rambunctious Raywood-

Spritefire noted the large tom near the edge of the clearing. Everyone else was fretting over Tigerwhisper, and while she worried for her friend, she just needed to get her mind off of it. "Blazefury." She nodded her head in greeting, padding toward him. "How're you holding up?" she asked in a grumbly tone, sitting on her hanuches beside him. At least it was a distraction.
-Stolen from FellowFallow-

Below are some examples of how you don't want to roleplay on site, and how you can alter these samples to meet the above guidelines.

Example 1

*walks into the camp* hi

This is not uncommon for beginners, and while the posts aren't necessarily wrong, they're vague. A better method would be to post something along the lines of:

Kestrelpaw walked into the clearing. "Hi!"

This gives viewers an idea of who has entered what part of camp (i.e. the clearing), and how they express their dialogue (exclamation marks are often used to indicate strong feelings or a higher volume, such as shouting).

Example 2

-leaps onto back and claws deeply-

This is another vague post, but it also is an example of powerplaying. In combat, you need to give your opponent a chance to react. It's not your decision as to whether their character is injured or not, and it's not their decision whether or not yours is. Balance the battle out, and remember that you should realistically fight based on your character's age. An apprentice would not be able to overpower a healthy warrior. The above post could be altered to:

Kestrelpaw bunched his legs and sprang into the air, claws aimed towards Bearpaw's back.

You can view a more in-depth guide to combat here

Keep in mind that roleplays should be in third person (she/he/they) and you should write posts in a similar format to the Warriors books and/or the  member and corrected examples above. There is no limit to how short or long your post is, provided you don't try to publish blank posts or posts that exceeds the 20,000 character limit the site provides.
